A notable Haitian proverb says, “Men anpil, chay pa lou” meaning many hands lightens the load. Since the start of the Haitian Heritage Museum (HHM) in 2004 during Haiti’s bicentennial celebration, the organization has cherished the many hands that have contributed to its overall success.

Fast forward to 2014, the Haitian Heritage Museum has been in the global community for over a decade cultivating a cultural legacy for future generations by means of arts, education, technology and artifacts. On November 20th, 2014, they ask that you lend your hands again, during this year’s Give Miami Day.

Give Miami Day is a unique, 24 hour online giving event on November 20th that allows individuals in our community an opportunity to build a greater Miami by making a charitable gift to local nonprofits. HHM is participating and they need your support to meet their fund raising goal of $10,000. This is a tremendous opportunity to raise funds for their community programs as the Miami Foundation will match every dollar donated to HHM.

This campaign will fund HHM’s diverse cultural and educational programs centered on arts, music, culture literacy and the sciences. HHM’s recent educational initiative supports “STEAM” the merging of the arts and instructional technology in the classroom. Increasing arts resources at schools in synergy with technology will ensure that Miami Dade’s students receive a balanced education based on technical literacy, academic excellence and an exploration of the arts.

Help HHM bring arts and technology to the youth to continue to highlight and preserve Haiti’s rich culture and heritage globally. Remember “men anpil, chay pa lou”. HHM is counting your hands during Give Miami Day. On November 20th 2014, donate online at  givemiamiday.org.

About Haitian Heritage Museum

The Haitian Heritage Museum is a non-profit organization that is committed to highlighting and preserving Haiti’s rich culture and heritage globally. Our goal is to provide a cultural Mecca for South Florida where individuals outside of our community and within our community can come to enjoy beautiful Haitian art, historic artifacts, ethnic sounds of Haitian music, view Haitian films and enjoy a collection of Haitian Literary works. We hope that by providing this experience to the public we can expose the phenomenal contributions that Haitians have made as a people which will in turn, create a legacy for the future generations of young Haitian Americans. Haitian Heritage Museum is the only museum in the world outside of Haiti dedicated entirely to the Haitian people.

Haiti nan kèm (Haiti is in my heart)

Haiti nan kèm

By Jade Pierre, Media Team

“ There’s a Haitian museum?!” is the typical reaction I get when I tell people that I’m a public relations intern at the Haitian Heritage Museum. When I tell them that Haiti is the first black led nation in the independent black-led nation in the world, they are again in disbelief.

As a Haitian “ Haiti nan Kèm.” It hurts to see people think of poverty or even the recent earthquake when Haiti is mentioned. There is so much about Haiti that people don’t know. It is a challenge to change those views but it can be done. The recent earthquake is proof of the strength and perseverance of the Haitian nation. Haiti is on the rise and it all starts by having a voice, sharing trustful and positive information about Haiti.Haiti in My heart

At the Haitian Heritage Museum our mission is to highlight and preserve Haiti’s rich culture and heritage globally. As an intern, I get to share my passion about my culture and my heritage because “Haiti nan Kèm”. As a supporter I know that Haiti is  also in your heart .

I want to invite you to help us continue our mission by joining us for Give Miami Day. We have done so much with the help of our supporters. On November 20th, donate at givemiami.org; Miami Foundation and its partners will match all donations of $25 or more.

Donate and help us share about the Haitian heritage and culture.
